Mindy Lahiri settles the debate, #teamjody or #teamdanny as we begin season 5.
We begin with “Decision 2016” immediately following where Season 4 left off. Jody (Garret Dillahunt) is an abomination of a character. He needs to die. He has none of the charm of Danny Castellano (Chris Messina) and is generally abhorrent. After gifting Mindy (Mindy Kaling) the apartment, his immediate response is to assume he deserves sex. Danny isn’t much better either. Both these dudes have turned into such horrible people and it’s satisfying to see Mindy dump both of them.
“Nurses Strike” is the payoff for the longstanding abuse of the nurses at Schulman and Associates. It’s a pretty lackluster episode and nothing much happens. Mindy swallows her pride and signs on to be the on call OBGYN for the midwives. She resolves to do it for her son, Leo. It also introduces her new love interest, a nurse (Bryan Greenberg, One Tree Hill), the only guy in the entire series to date that doesn’t seem like a huge douchebag.
I love Mindy Kaling but the show has been on a downward end for the last season and a half. With Mindy Kaling’s movie career taking off, I really want this to be the last season for The Mindy Project. These two episodes felt like a chore to watch.
